What a trained and certified Commercial Service technician has to say:
Use water
This can seem counterintuitive if you are staring at a sink that has standing water you want to get rid of. Instead of dumping more water into the sink, use a cup or bucket to get rid of the standing water. Next, fill the sink with very hot water and let it sit for around two hours. You may need to use a plunger to help this completely unclog the drain. Use the plunger to loosen the clog up, then pour (more) boiling hot water down the drain. Speaking of plungers…

Choose the right plunger for the job
While they seem like very remedial tools, not all plungers are created equal. To unclog the sink in the above scenario you will need a cup plunger, specifically designed for sinks and bathtubs. Because people refer to plungers by various names, check out this list to get their official titles and purposes.
Natural remedies
It seems like nowadays, everyone wants the most organic, green, natural, vegan, etc. option… and your plumbing is not skipping out on the trend! Many drain cleaners have chemicals like bleach that we recommend using as a last resort. Instead, try using a baking soda, white vinegar, and hot water solution. Let the solution sit for 10 minutes, then flush with a pot of boiling water. Be sure not to create this solution in advance – pour each element down the drain separately.
Do not limit yourself to just a plunger
While plungers are handy devices, they are not the only plumbing tool out there. Some tools like drain line cleaners and openers, and pressurized gas cans can work with or better than a plunger alone
PRO TIP: Trouble cutting through tough grease? Try a mixture of vinegar and hot water, plus a bit of grease-cutting detergent if need be, and let this sit for 10 minutes. Once that time is up, finish with a plunger.
